That’s a poem in a box. I’ve been writing daily poems, placing them in these little cardboard boxes, and sticking them randomly around town. Each poem has my name and website address on them.
The reason why I chose to do this is because I enjoy poetry and I love people. I’m an avid hiker, and often I’ll see little painted rocks in the woods with little messages on them, and I always stop to read them. It brightens my day.
My first goal is to brighten people’s days with a little fun poem. The hopeful side effect is they will enjoy it so much, they’ll check out my website, and possibly hire me for any poetic/writing needs they may have.
The reason why I love this project is that I don’t care about the outcome. If nobody hires me from this tactic, I still had fun doing it. I write poetry daily anyways, and I take pictures of them and post them on my social media sites, so this is just another way to share my poetry with the world.
So far, I’ve placed 13 boxes around town. I’ve gone back to check on them daily, and many of them are no longer there. Either someone took it, or someone threw it away. I hope for the former.
With Covid, I’ve been trying to think outside the box, and I noticed the internet is over saturated with people selling things. The past has a way of coming full circle, so I figured doing some grass-roots, local marketing is an untapped area right now. Maybe yes, maybe no, time will tell.
What do you think?
